Rate card checklist
What Every Professional Creator Rate Card Should Include
The essential sections that turn a list of prices into a useful, client-ready commercial document.
A professional rate card is a decision document. A buyer should be able to identify the creator, compare offers, understand the evidence, see the license boundary, and know the next step without reconstructing the deal from email. Use this page as a red-pen review rather than a template to copy blindly.
Thirty-second buyer test
Hand the card to someone who has not seen the brief. After thirty seconds, ask them to name the creator’s category, primary platform, recommended package, currency, usage boundary, and contact method. Any answer they must guess belongs in the next revision.
Evidence panel audit
- Every metric names its platform and measurement window.
- Followers include an “as of” date.
- Views state whether the figure is median or average and which posts were sampled.
- Sponsored and boosted posts are not mixed into an organic sample without explanation.
- No metric is presented as a guaranteed campaign outcome.
A defensible line looks like “Median views, latest 10 organic Reels, measured July 2026.” A bare “82K reach” is not auditable because the buyer cannot identify the platform, period, sample, or denominator.
Offer architecture audit
| Check | Pass condition | Common failure |
|---|---|---|
| Deliverable | Format, quantity, platform, and delivered files are named | “One content package” |
| Revision | Round, feedback owner, and changed-scope rule are visible | “Revisions included” |
| Timing | Production and feedback assumptions are stated | A deadline with no review window |
| Price | Currency and package total are unambiguous | Several unlabeled numbers |
License boundary audit
Separate organic publishing, paid media, creator-handle advertising, editing, raw footage, cross-platform use, territory, duration, and exclusivity. If a right is not included, say so. “Usage included” is not a pass because it hides who can use which asset and for how long.
Commercial terms audit
Check payment trigger, invoice timing, quote validity, revisions, cancellation expectations, reimbursable expenses, travel, props, rush work, and taxes where relevant. The card does not need to become a contract, but it should not invite assumptions about predictable operational costs.
File and accessibility audit
Print or export the final PDF. Check page breaks, selectable text, contrast, spelling, email address, currency, dates, and filename. Avoid screenshots of text. A buyer should be able to forward the file internally and still understand who issued it and which version is current.
Source and verification note
This checklist is an original Ratefolio document review method derived from the information needed to interpret a commercial offer. It does not rely on an external rate survey. Legal, tax, and accessibility requirements may vary by jurisdiction and organization. Last editorial review: launch edition.
